Some pieces of furniture will be manufactured with caster sockets already built
into the leg. Others will not have been made to have wheels on the bottom, and
will lack this piece of equipment. As the socket is meant to fit inside the
hollow leg of the furniture and hold the caster in place, it needs to be the
right size exactly in order to do its job without incident. Some people get
around this by taping the edges of the socket with thick tape that will plug
the gap and create the necessary friction.
Finding caster sockets that are not featured in the catalog
Because chairs and tables come with many different thickness
legs, this means that there has to be a range of caster sockets available for
them. Most manufacturers stock a good amount of these sizes, but there are
occasions when it will not be apparent in their catalog of stock. In this
scenario, most companies will be happy to look at a photograph or measurements
to see if they have a specific one in stock.
